WORK SCHEDULE:

The tasks required to support this initiative will primarily be performed remotely via telecommute internet, voice, and fax capabilities. Processing of the files does not necessarily correspond to 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Physician Assistants will serve as subject-matter experts assisting the Army National Guard to review soldier medical files in order to perform quality control and give medical determinations and opinions in all matters related to medical waivers and Line of Duty (LOD) requests.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Screen medical waivers packet to ensure completeness and accuracy, then forward to a healthcare provider for disposition and final determination through MATS.
  • Appropriately respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Process all waiver actions through MATS and e-MMPS.
  • Produce medically appropriate and accurate waiver and LOD reviews IAW all DOD, Army and ARNG regulations.
  • Process at least 8.5 waivers and 4 LOD packets per day for each work day to meet a weekly goal of 42 waiver packets and 20 LOD opinions.
  • Maintain all medical credentials.
  • Complete all necessary IT security certification courses that are required to obtain access and utilize the Government systems that are required to perform the tasks. These certifications include but are not limited to: HIPAA, MEDCHART and MATS training, ARMY Cyber Awareness, and other training requirements which may be specified as a response to security issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A degree as a Physician Assistant with NCCPA certification and current State licensing.
  • Extensive primary care, internal medicine, orthopedic, and/or emergency medicine background is required.
  • Prior military experience in these fields is required.
  • A thorough working knowledge of the relevant Army regulations, in particular AR 40-501.
  • An extensive working knowledge of the US Army and ARNG regulations and policies, and medically-related offices within the ARNG and the Department of the Army (DA).
  • Working or hands-on knowledge of Medical Treatment Facilities, Army National Guard Medical Care, Physical Exams and Waivers, Medical Boards, Medical Evacuation and Disaster Training is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with reviewing/revising/writing new versions of DoD, Army and Army National Guard and DOT medical regulations, pamphlets and forms is essential.
