There are plenty of ways to tighten up your wallet while making better, smarter choices that can lead to a longer, healthier life. Although a few of our suggestions will require significant changes in your day-to-day living, others require replacing unhealthy habits with healthy ones and making a few easy adjustments to your routine.

Quit smoking – this is a habit that can quickly drain your bank account!

Cook at home – eating out can get quite costly.

Drink more water – it’s free and healthy!

Try running, walking or hiking – again, it’s free and a great way to stay active.

Start a garden – free, nutritious food right in your own backyard.

Support local farmers by visiting Growers Markets for fresh fruits, veggies and meats.

Prepare for the grocery store – shopping with a list means buying less things you don’t need.

Meditate regularly – this is a great way to destress and create better mental health.

Create a meal plan for the week – you won’t find yourself grabbing less-than-healthy items for dinner if you have already planned your meals.

Try replacing meat with other proteins like legumes and eggs once or twice a week – this is a cheaper option and just as healthy.

Pack a lunch – this is a great way to control portion and guarantee a healthy way to get through the day.

Set up a home gym by exploring local Facebook Marketplaces – having equipment right in the house can make it difficult to make excuses.

Try your hand at smoothie making – this is a great way to enjoy vitamins and nutrients on a budget.

Meal prep on weekends – Chop and dice veggies, and cook meats on the weekends to save time during the week.

Use natural products like vinegar, lemon and baking soda to create your own cleaning products – the less chemicals the better!
